A growing city with new customers every week

South-east Queensland has been one of Australia's fastest-growing regions, and Brisbane's population growth means a steady flow of newcomers who know nothing about local businesses except what they read online. For a restaurant in Fortitude Valley or a plumber servicing the outer suburbs, those first impressions come largely from Google. With Brisbane preparing to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, construction, hospitality and tourism-facing businesses can expect that scrutiny to continue.

Our clients include a restaurant in Brisbane. Hospitality is review-heavy everywhere, but so are the trades and car sales in a growing city, where customers are making bigger, less frequent purchases and lean on reviews to manage the risk. See our pages for restaurants, tradies and car dealerships.

Which Brisbane reviews are worth challenging

We assess every review before taking it on, and we turn down reviews that are genuine criticism. The ones that tend to have a realistic basis for a complaint include:

  • a tradie being reviewed by someone whose address is not in your job records, or who appears to be confusing you with another business;
  • reviews from a rival business or someone connected to it;
  • reviews alleging a crime, such as theft or fraud, that is false;
  • reviews that disclose a customer's or employee's personal details;
  • a sudden cluster of reviews unrelated to any real visit.

Honest negative reviews, such as a late arrival, a disputed quote or a meal that missed the mark, are lawful and Google will normally keep them. Our guide to whether businesses can delete negative reviews explains where the line sits.

Queensland defamation law

Queensland's Defamation Act 2005 (Qld) is part of the uniform national scheme. The Stage 1 amendments commenced on 1 July 2021, introducing the serious harm element, mandatory concerns notices and the single publication rule. Queensland was slower with Stage 2: the Defamation and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2025 (Qld), which deals with digital intermediaries such as search engines and platforms, commenced in December 2025.

As elsewhere, most companies cannot sue for defamation. An "excluded corporation", meaning a not-for-profit or a business with fewer than 10 employees that is not related to another corporation, can, but it must show serious financial loss. Sole traders and named individuals stand in a different position. Our page on business defamation sets out the distinctions.

The Queensland Office of Fair Trading administers the Australian Consumer Law in the state together with the ACCC. It handles consumer complaints and licensing for some industries, and it can look at misleading conduct, but it does not moderate or remove Google reviews.

Time zones and how we work

Queensland does not observe daylight saving, so Brisbane is nine or ten hours ahead of the United Kingdom depending on the time of year. Our team works remotely and replies to assessment requests within 24 hours; email or the assessment form is the simplest way to reach us. After assessment, we prepare and lodge complaints for the reviews with a genuine basis, and invoice only for reviews Google actually removes. Per-review rates are on our pricing page. Timing depends on the evidence and on Google's process, so we do not promise dates.

If you run a Brisbane business and a review looks fake or makes false allegations, send it through for a free assessment and we will tell you whether it is worth pursuing.

Frequently asked questions

Someone reviewed my plumbing business but I have no record of the job. What should I do?

Check your records carefully, including jobs booked under a partner's name or a different address. If there is still no match, that absence of any customer relationship is relevant evidence for a complaint to Google. Reply politely in public asking them to get in touch, without accusing them.

Are the Gold Coast and Brisbane covered by the same law?

Yes. Both are in Queensland, so the Defamation Act 2005 (Qld) and the Queensland Office of Fair Trading apply to both. The review problems differ because the Gold Coast economy leans more heavily on tourism.

Do the 2025 Queensland reforms let me make Google remove a review?

Not by themselves. They change how the law treats digital intermediaries and give courts more powers in defamation proceedings. Most removals still happen through Google's own policy and legal complaint processes.

Can I offer a discount to a customer to change their review?

Be cautious. Offering an incentive only in exchange for a positive or changed review can be misleading under the Australian Consumer Law. Resolving the complaint itself and leaving the reviewer free to update their review is the safer approach.
